Amazon worker at Las Vegas warehouse dies in possible suicide

3/2/2021

Amazon workers from the LAS7 fulfilment center in Las Vegas, Nevada reported on social media that a co-worker died at work on Monday, falling from the fourth level of the warehouse.

According to NBC News, the North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) said the worker either “fell or jumped,” and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Many details have not been confirmed by Amazon as of this writing, including the name of the individual, but an investigation is underway. Alexander Cuevas, a spokesman for the NLVPD, stated, “Detectives were called out, and cause and manner of death will be revealed by the coroner.”

Many workers at the facility believe their fellow worker may have committed suicide. “So apparently someone committed suicide at my Amazon LAS7. They said he jumped from the 4th floor,” an Amazon worker posted on a Facebook group. When asked about what happened, she wrote, “They [managers] watched the camera and others said he jumped too.”

Multiple workers from the facility took to social media to spread the word about this tragic death. One user on Reddit wrote: “I’m hearing from day shift leadership that he … was in fact a stower.”

Another employee from the fulfilment center wrote that the fourth-floor landing for the stairway is an “unnetted area of our facility, where it’s a straight drop. Nauseating walking on it [because] the net & railing is less [than waist height]. I’ve never known someone who even tries to have an accident up that high. I pray he has a successful journey, prayers to the family & friends who have to pick up the pieces.”

According to these reports, workers were sent home nearly three hours after the incident with paid leave, and those on night shift were asked not to report to work. The text from management read: “Hello Aviators, LAS7 experienced an incident that required day shift employees to be sent home. If you are night shift, please do NOT report to work tonight. All time for days and nights shifts 3/1 will be paid. LAS7 does plan to open with regular business hours 3/2. Thank you and know we appreciate and value you.”

Hundreds of comments poured out in social media from co-workers across the entire United States. Condolences, prayers and good wishes were sent to the worker’s loved ones by fellow “Amazonians” from Baltimore, Portland, Dallas, Alabama, Connecticut, Idaho, New York, Mississippi, Michigan, Chicago, California and more.

For many people, the story hit close to home as they related their personal experiences with suicide, mental health issues and the stress of working at Amazon. “It makes me really heartbroken for this person’s family and friends,” one Amazon worker wrote on Facebook. “I know what it’s like to lose somebody to suicide.”

“I struggle with mental illness very heavily and this hit very close,” someone else added. “It needs to be talked about. Someone lost their life today at a place we’re at 40+ hours a week obviously something needs to be addressed.”

Another worker commented on Reddit, “The number of suicides has gone up lately it seems. Just 2 weeks ago I was thinking about that myself because I lost my dream job, I had to put my college classes on hold, and I lost the only close friend I had. I was forced to work at Amazon because it was the only job available. This all happened because of the damn pandemic which I’m sick of but I was able to remain calm and work on my mental health. Unfortunately, some people just don’t see a way out of their problems and decide to end it all. Amazon is already a very stressful job. It gets to some people eventually.”

Canadian most-wanted fugitive had child porn on phone when he was arrested in N.J.

3/2/2021

A 47-year-old man arrested in New Jersey last year after spending 17 years evading charges he sexually assaulted five young boys in Canada now faces child pornography charges in the United States, authorities said.

Parthasarthie Kapoor, who had been on Quebec’s 10-most wanted fugitive list since 2003, was arrested in Jan. 21, 2020 at Newark Liberty International Airport as he attempted to fly to India.

U.S. authorities held Kapoor, who is originally from the Bronx, New York, on a provisional arrest warrant at the request of Canadian authorities. When they searched his luggage, they found five cell phones, acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said Monday.

“A subsequent forensic examination of one of the cellular phones revealed numerous videos of children being sexually abused,” Honig said in a statement.

In a criminal complaint filed Feb. 25, an investigator with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said one of Kapoor’s phones contained at least eight videos of children being sexually assaulted.

Investigators were able to identify one of the child victims in the videos and determined Kapoor’s phone “was associated with two phone numbers that were utilized by (the victim),” according to the complaint.

Kapoor appeared Monday in U.S. District Court via videoconference and was ordered held on the U.S. charges, Honig said. The status of the Canadian charges was not immediately clear on Tuesday morning.

71-year-old Peach County man charged with distributing child porn

3/1/2021

PEACH COUNTY, Ga. — A 71-year-old Peach County man is charged with distributing child porn Monday after the GBI executed a search warrant at his home last week.

The GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit started an investigation after getting a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) about 71-year-old Ronald Mike Sanford and child sexual exploitation on the internet, according to a news release.

That’s what led the GBI’s CEACC Unit to execute a search warrant at Sanford’s house in Byron last Tuesday.

Sanford was arrested, taken to the Peach County Jail, and charged with one count of distribution of child pornography.

The GBI says the investigation was a joint effort between the GBI’s CEACC unit, Peach County Sheriff’s Office, and the GBI Region 13 Field Office.

The release says it’s part of an ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which is part of the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, to identify people involved in child pornography trade and sexually exploiting children online.

This program was started by the U.S. Department of Justice in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the internet, the proliferation of child pornography, and the heightened online activity by predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims, the release says.

Anyone with information about this case or any other cases of child exploitation call the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit at 404-270-8870.

‘T.I. & Tiny’ Stars Accused Of Sexual Abuse, Kidnapping & Other Crimes Over 15 Years

3/1/2021

At least 10 women and one man are accusing T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle stars Tip “T.I.” Harris and Tameka “Tiny” Harris of multiple sex, weapons and drugging crimes spanning 15 years.

Attorney Tyrone Blackburn held a news conference today to announce that he is seeking criminal charges against the couple (read the allegations here). He says his firm represents 11 accusers, and that it has been contacted by “over 30 women” who allege that the Harrises, “aided by several individuals in their employ, have kidnapped them, drugged them, raped them, and terrorized them with threats of death or physical bodily harm.”

Filming on T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle was put on hold in early February after the first allegations surfaced. The show had been shooting its fourth season in Atlanta since December.

In the letter to California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who is up for confirmation as President Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, Blackburn says “the various events of interest span fifteen years and have occurred in California — especially in the city of Los Angeles and the states of Georgia and Florida.”

The letter lays out several lurid claims against the Harrises, ranging from drugging and multiple rape to T.I. Harris putting a gun against one woman’s head and threatening to kill her. Another accuser claims to have known Tameka Harris since eighth grade and that “they were best friends.”

T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle comes from 51 Minds Entertainment. Sources told Deadline last month that the decision to pause production on the show was made mutually by MTV Entertainment, T.I. and Tameka Harris. Announced plans for a spring Season 4 premiere are on hold, the sources said.

Ghislaine Maxwell ‘hid in public view’ when Epstein scandal arose just like father Robert

2/28/2021

GHISLAINE MAXWELL was “hiding in public view” like her father Robert had done when concerns around her friend Jeffrey Epstein first arose, according to a new podcast, despite seeming to disappear after his most recent arrest.

Ghislaine Maxwell is awaiting trial behind bars in New York at the moment, having said she will renounce her French and British citizenships if she can be freed on bail.

She was arrested last July on charges relating to her former boyfriend and long-time friend, Jeffrey Epstein. He was arrested in July 2019 on sex trafficking charges, but killed himself in prison before his trial.

Ms Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to all six counts, which allege she was involved in Epstein’s sexual exploitation and abuse of minor girls between 1994 and 1997.

Epstein also served a prison sentence back in 2008.

He pleaded guilty to a solicitation of prostitution involving a minor and was sentenced to 18 months in prison — he ended up serving 13 months and became a registered sex offender.

Then, in 2015, Virginia Giuffre alleged she had been forced into sex with Epstein and his friends and issued a civil defamation lawsuit against Ms Maxwell.

At the time, the British socialite expressed concerns she would be affected by the fallout of the case.

Shortly after Ms Maxwell’s arrest last year, a trove of unsealed court documents from that lawsuit revealed an email exchange between Ms Maxwell and the disgraced financier.

An email from Epstein, sent in January 2015, read: “You have done nothing wrong and i woudl [sic] urge you to start acting like it. go outside, head high, not as an esacping [sic] convict. go to parties. deal with it.”

Speaking in the latest episode from the podcast ‘Power: The Maxwells’, host and investigative journalist Tara Palmeri addressed the email exchange.

She said: “In it, he seemed to be calming her nerves about what those same people would say.

“That’s what she did — the party pictures kept coming until the end of 2016.

“Did the invites finally dry up or did she decide to step back?

“Maybe she saw the end was near.”

Ms Palmeri also alleged that the lawsuit did not affect Ms Maxwell’s social status at the time.
