Human Trafficking New York City, The Elephant In The Room

New York Time Best Selling Author Francine Rivers shares insights ...

40.3 million people are victims of modern day slavery, which includes 24.9 million in forced labor and 15.4 million in forced marriages. Of the 24.9 million people entrapped by forced labor, 4.8 million people are in forced sexual exploitation, which disproportionately affects women. 99% of victims of commercial sex are women and girls. These are staggering statistics, and New York City is one of the largest destinations for trafficked women in the entire United States in large part due to high demand and access to ports. Human traffickers exploit victims in all five boroughs and target the majority of victims specifically for sex trade. The sex trade is also a billion-dollar industry with a demand that grows each year. Within the United States, there are large disparities between the organizations that advocate on the part of the victims, law enforcement, and legislation to combat the problem. At risk youth continue to be trafficked disproportionally because of the lack of funding in poor communities and in the foster care system.

Slavery is found throughout California, but major hubs are centered on Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco. According to the 2011 Department of State report, California, together with New York, Texas, and Oklahoma, has the largest concentrations of survivors of human trafficking.

98% of sex trafficking victims worldwide are female. An estimated 403,000 people are being trafficked in the United States. New York City is a gateway and one of the largest destinations for trafficked women in the country. Right now in every borough, women are being forced into prostitution.

Kids Rescued From Captivity

Over 35,000 malnourished, caged and tortured children have been reported rescued or found deceased in underground tunnels beneath large US cities including one beneath New York Central Park, “with more coming” according to reporter Timothy Charles Holmseth of the Pentagon Pedophile Task Force on 3 April.

There’s a Secret Tunnel Under Central Park. … Archival maps of the New York subway system have included this “ghost tunnel” twice: Once, in the summer of 1995, and a second time during the winter of 1998. In both instances, the tunnel was used to temporarily reroute the Q train during construction.

Modern Day Slavery: Right Here, Right Now | EAC Network

While some of NYC’s old tunnels and stations seem to have been neglected for good, many are reused—like the abandoned tunnel below Central Park that became part of the Second Avenue subway—and repurposed, as graffiti canvases, art galleries, party spaces, or even a VIP entrance to one of New York’s most luxurious

More than 13,000 people were reported missing in New York City last year. While most are promptly found, hundreds of people become missing long term (missing for 60 or more days.)

800,000 childrenAccording to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, roughly 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the United States — that’s roughly 2,000 per day. Of those, there are 115 child “stranger abduction” cases each year, which means the child was taken by an unknown person. Now ask yourself what is really happening to the children that are going missing. Human trafficking has to play a big role children just do not go missing for nothing.

Pharmaceutical Companies The Ugly Truth

Mallinckrodt Shares Jump as Pharma Giant Settles Ohio Opioid ...

It is know secret that Pharmaceutical companies make a killing world wide. The United States accounts for more than a third of the global pharmaceutical market, with $340 billion in annual sales followed by the EU and Japan. Just in 2020 alone Pharmaceuticals Market to Reach USD 1,310.0 Billion in 2020; Eruption of the COVID-19 Pandemic to Accelerate the Demand for Effective Treatments and Drugs Worldwide: Fortune Business Insights.

In 2019 the Combined total profits for these companies was about $744 Billion. -All 13 pharmaceutical companies spent a total of $643 Billion on research. -The total amount they spent on marketing was about 60% more than what they spent on research: $1.04 Trillion. The overall economic impact of the bio-pharmaceutical industry on the U.S. economy is substantial. The industry accounted for more than $1.3 trillion in economic output, representing 4 percent of total U.S. output in 2015 alone.

With a record 47,600 opioid overdose deaths in 2017: A new study linked drug companies’ marketing for opioid painkillers to more. Opioid painkillers aren’t the sole driver of overdose deaths in the US — particularly as illegal opioids, like illicit fentanyl and heroin, have taken off — though they’re still involved in 40 percent of opioid overdose deaths, according to the study. Whether and how more opioid prescriptions may lead to other kinds of opioid overdose deaths needs to be studied further, the researchers cautioned.

About the Epidemic | HHS.gov

The opioid epidemic can be understood in three waves. In the first wave, starting in the late 1990s and early 2000s, doctors prescribed a lot of opioid painkillers. That caused the drugs to proliferate to widespread misuse and addiction — among not just patients but also friends and family of patients, teens who took the drugs from their parents’ medicine cabinets, and people who bought excess pills from the black market.

A second wave of drug overdoses took off in the 2000s when heroin flooded the illicit market, as drug dealers and traffickers took advantage of a new population of people who used opioids but either lost access to painkillers or simply sought a better, cheaper high. And in recent years, the US has seen a third wave, as fentanyls offer an even more potent, cheaper — and deadlier — alternative to heroin.

It’s the first wave, though, that really kicked off the opioid crisis — and it’s where marketing for opioid painkillers is likely most relevant. (The study, however, could only look at recent data, because similar statistics don’t exist for prior years. So we don’t know if things are getting worse or better when it comes to marketing.)

Over the past few years, we’ve seen more and more reports about opioid companies aggressively marketing their products, even as it became clearer that the drugs weren’t the safe, effective alternative to other painkillers on the market that they claimed opioids to be.

Pharmaceutical Companies Exposed

Billions of taxpayer dollars go into the creation and marketing of new drugs. The Los Angeles Times reports that, “Since the 1930s, the National Institutes of Health has invested close to $900 billion in the basic and applied research that formed both the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.” Despite taxpayers’ crucial investment, U.S. consumers are increasingly paying more for their prescription drugs.

A 2018 study on the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) financial contributions to new drug approvals found that the agency “contributed to published research associated with every one of the 210 new drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration from 2010–2016.” More than $100 billion in NIH funding went toward research that contributed directly or indirectly to the 210 drugs approved during that six-year period. The NIH Research Project Grant which supports health-related research—was by far the most common kind of grant used to fund the science that supported the new drugs. In all, NIH gave out nearly 118,000 grants related to those drugs from 2010 to 2016.

Human Trafficking Louisville, KY

Human trafficking has become the Elephant in the room when it comes to the main media. Sure every once in a while the media will report on it. In 2018, a quarter of the 198 reported cases of sex trafficking in Kentucky were in Louisville, based on a report from the state’s Department of Community Based Services.

Louisville is a hub for sex trafficking, its location and crisscrossing interstates making it easy to move a victim across state lines, which complicates prosecutions. Jefferson County consistently has the highest number of trafficking cases in the state.

Here we have seven people arrested in human trafficking sting in Louisville, Ky.

Where trafficking is found human trafficking  is a global issue that is fueled by a strong demand, and can be found almost anywhere. Sex trafficking more often involves women and girls, however boys and men often are exploited as well. Victims of sex trafficking might find themselves being forced to act in porn films, be prostitutes, work for a pimp, work in an exotic strip club, or be a personal sex slave. Forced labor can be found in private homes in the form of domestic servants, as well as in restaurants, on farms, in massage parlors, etc. Child soldiers and organ trafficking victims are  found outside the United States in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burma, Syria, and Sudan, among others.

Android creator Andy Rubin accused of running a ‘sex ring’ human trafficking

Android founder, Andy Rubin, may have left Google long back in 2014, but his departure is beginning to attract more unsavory attention.

According to documents made public by a California superior court, Rubin left the company after having an “inappropriate relationship” with a subordinate, and allegedly concealed payments about his hefty severance package from his now-estranged wife for several years.

San Mateo Superior Court Judge Susan Greenberg unsealed a civil complaint brought by Rubin’s estranged wife, Rie Hirabaru Rubin. The complaint revealed how Google and its parent company Alphabet compensated the high-powered former executive in secret after he left the company following a sexual misconduct allegation. News of the former executive’s $90 million exit package sparked internal anger at Alphabet and widespread condemnation, leading to employee demonstrations, shareholder lawsuits, and revisions to policies on how the company handles sexual misconduct complaints.

Android Founder Andy Rubin Accused of Running 'Sex Ring' - Filthy ...

The lawsuit, which was filed last October but was temporarily sealed by the court, alleges that Andy Rubin and his former lawyer conspired to defraud Rie Rubin by convincing her to sign a prenuptial agreement that later barred her from sharing any part of her husband’s financial gains. Rie Rubin, who is also seeking a divorce in a separate family court, is suing to invalidate that prenuptial agreement and to potentially lay claim to a portion of Andy Rubin’s net worth, which court documents estimate to be around $350 million.

While the lawsuit never explicitly states that Google paid $90 million as part of an exit package following an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct in 2014, it does state that “Rubin concealed his income” and that his wife “even now does not understand the full scope of his finances.” Rie Rubin also alleged that her husband opened a separate bank account a few months before he left Google in October 2014 to receive his earnings and make “hundreds of thousands of dollars in payments to other women.”

In her ruling on Tuesday, Greenberg unsealed the documents, allowing the case to proceed, but asked that the plaintiff submit an amended complaint that removes many of the salacious charges around Andy Rubin’s alleged payments to other women for relationships.

According to the complaint, Rubin also ran “what appeared to be a sex ring,” echoing the New York Times report, which claimed the Android creator had been involved in “ownership relationships” with multiple women during his marriage.

However, Ellen Stross, one of Andy Rubin’s attorneys, disputed the claims of the lawsuit. She called the suit a “garden-variety family law dispute involving a wife who regrets her decision to execute a prenuptial agreement.”

The Rampant Human Trafficking Problem In Texas

Texas has a rampant human trafficking problem. After California, it ranks second in number of calls to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. … In 2018, the state created “Texas Businesses Against Trafficking,” which equips businesses to help combat trafficking.

Human Trafficking Texas

Report from the Statewide Human Trafficking Mapping Project of Texas, a collaboration among the Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault (IDVSA) and the Bureau of Business Research at The University of Texas at Austin as well as Allies Against Slavery. The study found that there are more than 300,000 victims of human trafficking in Texas, including almost 79,000 minors and youth victims of sex trafficking and nearly 234,000 adult victims of labor trafficking. Minor and youth sex trafficking costs the state of Texas approximately $6.6 billion annually, and traffickers exploit approximately $600 million from victims of labor trafficking in Texas.

Texas is notoriously known for human trafficking. The situation has not and is not getting any better. The study found that there are more than 300,000 victims of human trafficking in Texas, including almost 79,000 minors and youth victims of sex trafficking and nearly 234,000 adult victims of labor trafficking.

79,000 SEX TRAFFICKED IN TEXAS — The Refuge for DMST

Texas officials were failing child victims of sex trafficking in 2017.

As The Texas Tribune previously reported in our “Sold Out” series, state leaders’ bold campaign promises about ending sex trafficking proved hollow on closer inspection. We uncovered state laws passed to create programs for victims that were never funded and identified a pipeline of victims who often came from the state’s foster care program and ended up in jail.

In the three years since, state leaders have made serious reforms to some of the issues we reported on, though advocates say there’s still a long way to go.

Texas lawmakers have funded anti-trafficking efforts with millions of dollars and in 2017 and 2019 poured millions of new dollars into the state’s Child Protective Services and foster care systems.

Still, a federal judge recently fined the state for dragging its heels on implementing reforms ordered in the long-running lawsuit over the civil rights of children in foster care. Facilities that care for child sex-trafficking victims say they still need more funding. And law enforcement agencies say traffickers are changing the way they solicit potential victims faster than Texas officers can adapt.

What has the state done to combat sex trafficking?

Texas Passes Bill to Fight Human Trafficking

Gov. Greg Abbott said he wants the state to prioritize sex trafficking and signed multiple bills last year to establish a Human Trafficking PreventionCoordinating Council, education courses and victim treatment programs.

But to the dismay of many anti-trafficking advocates, Abbott vetoed a bill decriminalizing prostitution for children because he said it would create “unintended consequences” — such as encouraging traffickers to use underage prostitutes so they would not get arrested. He also vetoed House Bill 3078, which sought to establish a separate clemency panel to review cases of jailed abuse survivors and sex-trafficking victims.
